The Hiccup Treatment | And Other Funny Stories

 The Hiccup Treatment

An old couple lived in a village. They lived alone because their children were married and lived far from home. The old couple lived happily at their small cottage.

One day, the old woman got bouts of hiccups and whatever she did, she had no relief. The following day, she decided to go to the village doctor with a neighbouring lady.

The doctor told the woman that he wanted to examine her first. So, he asked her to lie down on the bed. The old lady got on to the bed with the help of the other lady.

The doctor first checked her pulses and then examined her well. The old lady was still getting hiccup. He then sat down on a chair next to the bed and asked,

"How old are you grandma now?"

She said, "I'm 83 doctor!" and continued suffocating her hiccups, "I have five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, too".

The doctor kept silent for a few seconds and said,

"Mum! I find that you are pregnant!".

The old lady was dumbfounded to hear these words out of the blue. She fixed her eyes on the doctor for a while , murmured something unintelligible , jumped out of the bed and dashed home. Her friend who was an arthritis patient could not catch up with the old lady.

When she went to the old lady's home, she found the most unexpected scene. The old lady's husband was fallen at the doorstep and the old lady was weeping hugging the lifeless body. It appeared that he had got a stroke. The old lady had broke the news to her old husband.

The neighbouring woman immediately called the doctor.

"Doctor, I'm the one who accompanied an old lady with bouts of hiccups a short while ago."

"Well! I hope that the 'scare treatment' I gave her has cured her."

"But doctor! she...."

"Why is she still getting hiccup? Then bring her back. Let's try another."

"Doctor! her husband had got a stroke to hear that the old lady was pregnant and has just passed away."
